The Arizona Wind Quintet (AWQ) is the faculty ensemble-in-residence at the University of Arizona Fred Fox School of Music. Formed in 1977, AWQ has cultivated a tradition of excellence in both performance and teaching. The quintet mentors the award-winning Fred Fox Graduate Wind Quintet, the university’s premiere student chamber ensemble. AWQ enjoyed a residency at the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM) in Mexico City. In 2019, AWQ
took its “Homenaje a México” on tour to Los Angeles, where they performed the Mexican General Consulate in LA, UCLA, and other premiere music programs across the region. In early 2020, AWQ traveled for performances and masterclasses in Las Cruces, El Paso and Ciudad Juarez, where they visited the Orquesta Sinfónica Esperanza Azteca youth program. AWQ released their first album, Hans Winterberg: Chamber Music (Toccata Classics), in 2018. In March 2022, the ensemble released Johanna Beyer: Music for Woodwinds (New World Records), a collection of eight premiere recordings highlighting a rediscovered figure of 20th-century American ultramodernism.

DREAM STATES is a collection of new music from living composers of Arizona and Mexico. Charles Philip Daniels Torres' Imágenes Oníricas (Dream Images) pairs seamlessly with Dream States by Colin I. Nossek, as both works draw on surrealist imagery with divergent takes on rhythmic invention and color. Daniel Asia's Chicago Variations and Yuanyuan (Kay) HE's Soul on Fire each offer a succinct essay in form and character. Nubia Jaime Donjuan's Alcatraz is a charming closer in the style of Mexican danzón.
